So this is it. I’m starting the process that will take me through the creation and hopeful sale of my poetry book. I should explain, this added commentary is my attempt to blog about the ups and downs of this project as they happen rather than relying on memory.

A list of my experiences: NONE. That’s right, zilch, zero, nada. I don’t have any professional writing experience. I don’t have formal academic training either. The extent of my experience is the occasional poetry I write for the sake of nurturing a flailing hobby. There was also the poetry I wrote

The reason I’m attempting this now is because I’ve stumbled upon some inspiration from all sorts of books, particularly The 4-Hour Work Week (as old as it is). This idea of becoming more of a writer/entrepreneur was always shifting around the machinations of my inner mind, yet I was rarely compelled to action. I wanted to do something about it, then I would research some stuff, then I would write something, then I would sike myself out à la self-sabotage.

So far, I’ve brainstormed several topics to write about. First, I know I want to write a poetry book and I want it to be themed. Not su

re how big the market is for something like that, but that’s what I want to do because it’s something I’d find interesting. Second, I’m playing with the idea of making graphics a part of the poetry book. I think that would give it an interesting twist from what’s available. Something like a mix between poetry and a graphic novel would be pretty cool.

Next steps: I should probably do some more research (while still writing poetry) about how to best publish a book. See what legacy publishing vs Digital publishing looks like.
