EP.1 HIT RECORD
BOOM, we’re live… or at least that’s what I imagine it looks like when starting a podcast. This is another project I want to embark on and, like with the other project, I want to document the process. The challenge here is that I don’t really have a premise nor do I have a long-term plan.
I dabbled in the podcast arena about 10 years ago, but it was nothing permanent. It was just a couple of friends shooting the breeze and talking. We did it mostly because it made us laugh more than anything. So here I am 10 years later and wondering what could’ve been if I had just stuck with the format.
As the old saying goes “The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second-best time is now.” I will heed that advice and try to create something. Despite not having a completely clear picture, I think it’ll be an exciting experience.
I’ve been jotting down ideas, but I’m plagued with analysis paralysis. Sometimes I can be a bit of a perfectionist and it prevents me from even getting started. I’ve decided on the first thing that comes to my mind. Which happened to be chicken wings. Not sure why, but I’m sticking to it. I roped in some other friends to join me and they said they’re in.
The premise I developed was to go around to different restaurants in RVA and eat some chicken wings. We would then rate the chicken wings. Additionally, the plan is to shoot the breeze while the chicken wings are made. All in all, I visualized a 5-15 min show that we could do once a week.
Update: October 14, 2023
Colin, Grant, and I finally sat down and recorded the first episode of the show. We went pretty bare bones and decided to use our phones to record the conversation. It was loads of fun, but we discovered our first problem. I had not considered how loud the environment would be at a restaurant. This presented a problem when I sat down to edit the recording. The ambient music and background conversations were present in the recording.
I did my best to clean the audio, but it’s not great. The other problem I discovered was with the editing. Although this was more of a speedbump than a problem. I don’t have the adobe creative cloud anymore so I had to find an alternate editing software. I decided on Audio Director, which is pretty good, but I have to relearn everything.
